We just moved into a new house in NC during the summer and my family thought the house we moved into was NEW since it smelled and looked new. We heard of no prior occupants and the walls here and there were not even painted yet. It just happened that we moved in that new house during one of the hottest summers there was in North Carolina.
In NC during the summer, the lightning storms are very bad and followed by booming thunder. My mom would come during some bad storms into my brother's room and later, to mine to make sure we were okay and maybe sing us to sleep. One night the lightning was horrible and the thunder was like a canon shot so I didn't sleep very well. In the corner of my room, I saw what I thought was my mom standing there with her back turned. I called out to her to thank her for coming over to look after me since I was petrefied of thunder and lightning (it didn't help that my mom told my brother and I Japanese urban tales of lightning striking people through the belly buttons so we had to hide it from the lightning god) but no matter how I called her, my mom wouldn't turn around.
It was a kid's perfect nighmare scene! The lightning flashes would occassionally illuminate a medium height woman with long black her to her waist from time to time in silver strobe and I thought it was my mom but the strange thing was this lady STILL never turned around---and didn't my mom have SHORT HAIR? As soon as the thought screamed in my mind the woman turned---oh so slowly---and like a classic asian horror movie, she took her time turning around. And I inwardly hoped she wouldn't really turn around because I knew that the visage I would see would not be a nice one. Suddenly, she turned and showed me a face which was so white and frozen in a smiling grimmace, filled with so much hatethat I ever saw on a human! "If I cover my eyes with the sheet, the woman would go away", I thought to myself, but no matter what, when I lowered the sheet down just a bit to see if the woman disappeared, she was still there! The only alternative was for me to scream. And here flew my mom into my room to save me by turning on the light. After she calmed me, I told my mom about the lady and bless her heart, my mom stayed with me all night. As kids are, I soon forgot the incident and when one day my mom called me to her to discuss the lady, I wondered what she was talking about.
"Remember the asian-looking woman you saw in your room with long black hair?" my mom asked. "I talked to our next door neighbor about that incident and she said that there was a family that had owned the house before us. The man was a Marine and was a womanizer and rarely came home and left his wife alone constantly in the house. One day the woman got some freedom and went out with some church friends and upon returning home, found her husband with another woman in their house. It must have been the last straw for the woman because she finally went crazy, wrecked the house and had to be admitted to an insane assylum. She was a Japanese woman with long, black hair."
