The 71'st Movie Night

Tonight's movie is titled "The Company of Wolves". Some of the movies that I've found have some nudity or horror movie style violence in them. I will try to warn you ahead of time if there is something that might be disturbing for some but use your own good judgement. Also movies from YouTube tend to be a little darker in the dark scenes so sometime you may want to turn up the brightness on you computer screen. My posting this movie does not change any of the other rules and guidelines that are in place on Halloween Horrors. For example this is still a no nude picture site. You may post videos in a blog but please make sure the movies are not too objectionable (if you have questions ask before you post - and please let me know when you plan to do it).... Tonight's movie is titled "The Company of Wolves" (1985 Rated R Directed by Neil Jordan who Directed High Spirits and In Dreams) A Grannie played by Angela Lansbury rocounts tales to her Grandaughter Rosaleen about werewolves. The tales are wrapped around the symbolism of childhood tales like Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. The Grannie tells the Grandaughter how to recognise werewolves and how to protect herself. This film is filled with excellent transformation scenes and elaborate beautiful scenery and excellent filming.

I wish I could have found the doctmentary about the special effects guy that worked on this film. I looked for Skintricks and got a mile of make-up products videos. And with Christopher Tucker's name (the effects man for this film), I got a ton of stand-up routines and movie bits about Chris Tucker the comedian. I have the documentary here on VHS tape somewhere but that doesn't really help.

Angela Lansbury was great as the grandmother! Too bad she met her end later in the movie though, she loved to tell her granddaughter stories. I loved the sets - the old village, the forest - and the special effects, especially the scenes in the story of the travelling man who returns to his old home and transforms into the werewolf and the man (who killed granny) toward the end of the movie who transforms after being shot by Rosaleen. I liked the story Rosaleen told her mother, about how everyone was transformed into werewolves at the wedding party by the pregnant woman and they later had to sing to her and her baby each night in the woods. Good movie, I really liked it :)

I wish that I had been able to find the special effects documentary titled "Skintricks". It deals with the effects in this and other films. The quality of the effects that are created are unbelieveable.
