Halloween Horrors

A Meeting Place For Everyone That Loves Horror Movies And Halloween Topics

I couldn't find another Poe related movie on YouTube but this classic Vincent Price movie about an actor who loses his mind and seeks revenge on his critics is as close as I could come. Tonight's movie is titled "Theatre of Blood ". Some of the movies that I've found have some nudity or horror movie style violence in them. I will try to warn you ahead of time if there is something that might be disturbing for some but use your own good judgement. Also movies from YouTube tend to be a little darker in the dark scenes so sometime you may want to turn up the brightness on you computer screen. My posting this movie does not change any of the other rules and guidelines that are in place on Halloween Horrors. For example this is still a no nude picture site. You may post videos in a blog but please make sure the movies are not too objectionable (if you have questions ask before you post - and please let me know when you plan to do it).... Enjoy tonights movie :)

Tonight's movie is titled "Theatre of Blood " (1973 Rated R) Directed by Douglas Hickox
who Directed
Plotline: Edward Lionheart (Vincent Price) stars as an actor overlooked for a critics' acting award, despite producing a season of Shakespeare plays. After confronting the Critics' Circle, an attempted suicidal dive into the Thames results in Lionheart being rescued by homless dregs of society. Lionheart then (presumed dead) exacts his grizzly, and quite amusing revenge on the critics in various ways that are inspired by Shakespean plays.

Classic films had some seriously great actors. Sometimes the acting in modern films can seem seriously cheesy and Corny. Theatre of Blood had a great plotline too. Effects seem to be too much of a substitute for a good story now.

Great movie - both Diana Rigg and Vincent Price were great in their roles. His character, Lionheart, didn't like criticism of his acting...to say the least! I liked the scenes that showed when he hadn't won the award, it explained how upset he had been and how he was saved after jumping into the river. The only critic who wasn't killed knew who was behind all the murders, and that Lionheart had patterned the deaths after the different plays he had been in. The deaths were gruesome, especially the critic who was beheaded in bed and the one critic stabbed and drug behind the horse, or the lady critic whose death was electrifying, so to say. It took me a while to realize that Lionheart's curly-haired "male" assistant was actually his daughter. I liked the ending, I was glad the critic Devlin was saved from the two heated daggers by the police in the theater, but both Lionheart and his daughter weren't so lucky. Thanks for posting the movie, I love older horror movies like this one.
